Trộn 200gr bột mì với 100gr bột bắp vào tô lớn. Giã nhỏ men nở, trộn đều 5gr men nở với hỗn hợp bột. Ở 1 tô khác, trộn 200gr bột mì còn lại với 5gr men nở. Nhào bột ở cả 2 tô với chút nước đến khi bột mịn và kết dính, để khoảng 10 phút cho bột nở rồi lấy ra. Phần bột trắng và bắp có màu vàng nặn thành viên tròn. Phần bột trắng không màu thì cán mỏng như trong hình.
Đặt viên bột vàng lên trên miếng bột trắng và bao lại. Có thể bao thành hình tròn, hoặc bao theo hình cánh hoa. Sau khi bao bột, dùng dao khía hình chữ X dày khoảng 1cm trên bề mặt bánh, nặn tròn. Đối với bánh bao theo hình cánh hoa thì đập dẹt và cắt dôi để tạo hoa cúc vàng.
Sau khi nặn hết bánh thì đặt vào khay để khô khoảng 60 phút cho bánh nở. Khi bánh đang căng phồng, cho bánh vào xửng hấp, hấp khoảng 10-20 phút.
Bánh bao chay 2 màu đã hoàn thành và nóng hổi. Bạn có thể uống kèm 1 ly sữa nóng nạp năng lượng bữa sáng nào.
